"MA" — a pause in time, an interval, an emptiness in space.
Project
The new Mazda needed a visual language that could hold silence. For the product launch of the CX-80, Studio.absTime was commissioned by Trias GmbH to develop the visual narrative for a four-day advertising shoot inside a 24-metre LED cave.
The challenge was clear: visuals that convey a painterly, spontaneous and emotive feel, whilst remaining technically precise enough to synchronise with a professional film production.
01
The Brief
Fifteen LED panels formed the spatial canvas. Every visual had to work as both backdrop and centrepiece.
02
The Approach
Four distinct ink-based visual systems linked to motion tracking were developed. The result was a live painting performance: abstract landscapes that breathed, changed and responded in real time to movement within the space. Designed to adapt to the constraints of an advertising shoot, the system allowed the director to capture something genuinely unique in every shot.
03
The Result
Over four days of production, the images evolved from abstract landscapes to blank canvases and back again. The real-time approach meant that no two frames were identical, giving the final advert a quality that pre-rendered content cannot replicate.
A system designed not to repeat, but to respond.
